 Safety & Noise Barriers

Safety Barriers

Safety barriers are specifically designed and planned to prevent vehicles from leaving highways or railways and straying onto adjacent infrastructures or developments.

Maccaferri experience and Duna. Using our skills in reinforced soil structures, we designed and manufactured barrier solutions for the Milan-Bologna and Milan-Turin high-speed railways line to prevent vehicles from leaving the motorway and crashing onto the railway. This specific reinforced soil structure, Duna, was installed for many kilometres on these projects. Recognising that ease of installation is a key factor for our clients, we fabricated Duna units to be completely pre-assembled in the factory including the various facing types. This minimised the construction effort, saving time and costs on the project site.

Acoustic Barriers

Increasing demand for acoustic barriers. Acoustic barriers are used to minimize noise pollution from one place to another. Regulations to minimise the environmental impact of the noise and visual pollution created by infrastructure and industrial works in residential areas has generated a growing demand for acoustic barriers and visual screening. Such barriers should have; • Minimal impact on the urban landscape • Even high structures must have a small “footprint” Maccaferri solutions combine both these attributes, with ease of construction and cost-effectiveness: • GreenReef – modular walling system with vegetating panels • Green Sonic – modular acoustic barrier system designed to vegetate

Engineering soil. To enable successful vegetation, we and our partner in this sector, Euroambiente, have developed a specific mineral soil with high vegetation capacity and low maintenance. This enables the growth of plants and shrubs on surfaces with a slope of more than 80°.
